Texas Hash Recipe

Texas Hash Texas Hash was first introduced to the troop leadership at the Kettle Country District Leader Training by Dick Borchardt. It has become a staple in the troop menu planning.

2 lbs. ground beef

4 cups uncooked rice

2 cups onion, chopped

2 cups sweet bell pepper, chopped

2 cups celery, chopped

2 16oz cans of diced tomatoes

1/2 cup BBQ sauce

3 cups shredded cheddar cheese

2 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. black pepper

1 tsp. salt

About 1 cup water

Directions:

In a large Dutch oven, brown the hamburger meat. Drain meat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery and saute for a few minutes. Add the diced tomatoes and rice and saute a little more. Add the BBQ sauce, seasonings, and the water. Cover and let cook with about 6 coals on the bottom and 12 on the top. Stirring occasionally to make sure it doesn't burn. When the rice is done, sprinkle the cheese on the top, recover, and let melt. Once melted, you're ready to serve dinner.
