The First Eagle Scout of Troop 765
In April of 2005, Troop 765 was born. At that time, Scoutmaster John Piechowski did not know how quickly this new troop would be able to honor an Eagle Scout. The rank of Eagle Scout (the highest rank in Boy Scouting) is only earned by 5% of Boy Scouts (http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/02-516.html) and must be earned before turning 18. Therefore, it has become an honor to recieve.
Well, on Thursday December 21, 2006, The Kettle Country District, Bay Lakes Council advancement representative (along with the Troop committee) awarded Tony Piechowski the rank of Eagle Scout. John Piechowski, Scoutmaster and father, said that he was very proud of his son's accomplishments.
One of the key requirements to earning Eagle Scout is to lead a community service project entailing at least 100 service hours. Anthony turned 16 in September and worked this fall on his service project in Jackson; he built a ¼ mile multipurpose trail starting on the corner of Jackson and Sherman Drives, running northeast along the creek. The project entailed coordinating with the Kelly Valentino of the Village Park and Rec department, attending Village of Jackson Board meetings for approvals, coordinating use of equipment, cutting brush, clearing trees, leveling land, and laying and packing wood chips. In total, Anthony coordinated the effort of 18 youths and adults volunteering over 30 hours of his time, and over 170 total hours of effort.
Anthony's dedication to volunteering doesn't stop at earning Eagle Scout. In 2005, he volunteered at a scout camp for 6 weeks as a camp counselor. In the winter, he volunteers to teach youth snowboarding. During his Study Hall at school, he stops in the technology lab to help students struggling in their Engine, Power, and Transmission class. He is also on the West Bend West Cross Country Team.
Tony's Eagle Scout project was featured in The West Bend Daily News on January 2, 2007. As well, The Village of Jackson recognized Anthony Piechowski for achieving his Eagle Scout April 10th, 2007/.
Hopefully, Tony has started a long and prosperous Eagle Scout Trail for Troop 765.
